IU's Gateway in New Delhi

The IU India Gateway supports IU faculty research and student-focused activities in India. We can provide meeting and reception spaces, offices, and classrooms, as well as a range of in-country support services. The IU India Gateway is also a key resource for connecting with IU’s partner institutions in India.

Since opening in 2014, the IU India Gateway has hosted many events, including academic conferences, workshops, public outreach, and overseas study programs.

Programs, centers, and institutes

These academic programs, centers, and institutes welcome collaboration on India-focused projects and programs.

The Madhusudan and Kiran C. Dhar India Studies Program at Indiana University Bloomington promotes original research and innovative teaching on all aspects of the Indian subcontinent.

Although more than 30 full-time faculty members work in a range of disciplines and with diverse regional interests, all share an enthusiasm for the study of South Asia. The program has specialists on Bengal, northern India, Tamil Nadu, the Tibetan plateau, and Maharashtra, to name but a few.

South Asia is home to literally thousands of different languages, including some of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Faculty members of the Dhar India Studies Program regularly provide in-depth instruction to undergraduate and graduate students in Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, and Sanskrit, with courses offered from beginning through advanced levels.

Students also may pursue Persian or other languages appropriate to their course of study through the Department of Central Eurasian Studies.

Resources in political science, religious studies, language, literature, economics, film, folklore, journalism, history, philosophy, theater, art, criminal justice, Near Eastern languages and cultures, Tibetan studies, and music as well as reference tools are included in the IU Libraries collections.

Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, and Bengali (Bangla) are regularly taught and supported through library acquisitions.
